Minnie Ellen Garrett

October 18, 1916 — July 4, 2017

Minnie Ellen Garrett, 100, of Lochbuie, passed away July 4, 2017.

Minnie Ellen Garrett was born on October 18, 1916 to Edward and Margaret (Capper) Hoss at the family homestead in Wallace County, Kansas. On October 22, 1932, she married Vernon McAllister at the Sharon Springs, KS courthouse. From this union they had two children, Cayle Leroy and Ella Charline.

Minnie worked many jobs during her life. She was a teacher in a one-room schoolhouse teaching even her own children. She was a beautician and later in life would work at a greenhouse (even into her 80s) growing beautiful plants and flowers.

She moved to Colorado in 1951 and would remain living there except for a few years living with her daughter in Wisconsin. Her first husband Vernon passed away in 1966 and later she would marry Robert Leland Garrett.

Minnie enjoyed a variety of interests during her life. She used her green thumb for gardening at home, fishing trips and traveling with family and friends, quilting and she loved the Colorado Rockies. She was a very active member and supporter of the South Weld County Lions Club.

Minnie was very involved with her family going back home for reunions or family gatherings. She was there to give help to those who may need it. Whether they were family, friends or even people she barely knew, if she could help in any way she would.

She was a very independent, strong-willed, hard-working woman who will be sadly missed by her son, Cayle (Freda) McAllister and his children, Rebecca Lee and Robert Lynn; daughter Charline Motsenbocker and her children Robin Hendrickson, Dawn (Jon Timpe) Motsenbocker and Lyle (Rhonda Winchell) Motsenbocker; great-grandchildren Lacy, Heath, Alexandra and Olivia; great-great-grandchildren Hannah, Brody, Bree, Kennedy, Grayson, Hudson and Lillyanna; special niece Connie Jo McAllister, several extended family members and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; six brothers; son-in-law, Oliver Motsenbocker; grandson Faron and two great-grandsons, cody and Derek.

Throughout Minnie's life when it was time to say goodbye, she rarely said, "Goodbye." She would just say, "See you soon." See you soon, Minnie.
