Miriam Burris

Burris, Miriam Buzzell

Born 1924 in Chicago, Illinois, to Harold and Mae (Shuster) Buzzell. She passed away April 9, 2014 in Aurora, Colorado. Miriam attended Beloit College and was a graduate of the University of Illinois in 1946. She graduated from the National College of Education in 1948. She quit teaching after two years to become an airline stewardess and flew with American and United Airlines. She received her Masters of Library Science degree from DU in 1963 and was an elementary school librarian for Cherry Creek Schools for 23 years.

Miriam's lifelong passion was travel. She visited 148 countries including all the continents, all 24 time zones, and achieved membership in the Travelers' Century Club. She was an adventurous spirit who usually took the road less travelled. Miriam also volunteered with Opera Colorado and the Denver Art Museum.

Miriam was married to Robert Burris in 1953 in Chicago, Illinois. She is survived by her children, Anne, Robert Jr., John "Randy"; daughter -in-law Catherine Jarvis; grandchildren, Beau, Adrienne, Anna and Robert F. Burris, Aaron, Sam and David Burris DeBoskey; and dear family friend Masako Furuiye. She leaves behind a much beloved circle of friends. She was preceded in death by her son Joel "Jody" and husband Bob and her first husband Harry Davis. Memorial services will be 11 AM, Sat., April 19th at Newcomer Funeral Home- East Chapel. Contributions may be made to Opera Colorado and Rocky Mountain Planned Parenthood.
