Mitchell Christian Cavin of Aurora, CO, passed away unexpectedly on May 21, 2026, at the age of 51.
A talented chef by trade, Mitch had a deep appreciation for food and its ability to bring people together. He took great pride in his craft, finding purpose in creating meals and meaningful experiences for others. Most recently, he worked for a company that developed nutritionally tailored meals designed to support the effectiveness of cancer treatments—a role that reflected not only his culinary talent but also his compassion and desire to make a positive difference in people's lives.
Outside the kitchen, Mitch found happiness in the things he loved most—spending time with his family, playing golf, cheering for the Oakland A’s, caring for animals, and spending hours immersed in music from his vast and eclectic record collection. He was a kid at heart, with a playful spirit and an enduring appreciation for the people and passions that brought him joy.
Mitch was thoughtful, compassionate, and full of heart. He will be remembered for his quick wit, infectious laugh, youthful spirit, and the genuine encouragement he offered to others. Mitch had a way of making people feel seen and understood, and the kindness and joy he shared throughout his life left a lasting impression on those who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his spouse, Hiroko Kaibori; his daughter, Madeleine Cavin; and his parents, Lyle C. Cavin Jr. and Geraldine Cavin. He is also survived by his sisters, Gretchen Krueger, Lindsey Cavin and Stephanie Cavin. He is preceded in death by his brother, Lyle Cavin III, whose memory he carried closely and with whom he is now reunited. He will be remembered and missed by his family, friends, former colleagues, and all who knew and cared for him.
