HERBERT SEPPER: IN MEMORIAM
Herbert Sepper, 83, passed away peacefully at home in Aurora, Colorado on Monday May 4, 2015, after a brave battle with cancer.
He was born on March 24, 1932 in Schajkasch, Sv Ivan Yugoslavia; the youngest child of Karl and Susanna Sepper. After enduring many struggles during WWII, he emigrated to the United States through the Lutheran Church and went to live with foster parents in San Antonio, Texas, Robert and Kit Brauchle. He graduated in 1951 from Alamo Heights High School, and quickly joined the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict. He was stationed mainly in Germany, and completed a tour in Vietnam where he earned the Bronze Star for Valor. He married Helgard Bohn in December 1960 in Germany. After serving for 23 years in the Air Force and retiring as a Master Sargeant, he attended school at Colorado State University and earned a Bachelor's degree and Master's degree in Vocational Education and Administration. He taught briefly at Arapahoe Community College and Denver Institute of Technology. He was an active member of Christ the Savior Lutheran Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Smart. Funny. Talkative. These are just a few of the words used to describe Herbert. But most importantly, Herbert will be remembered as a kind and loving family man. He led by example for his two sons, and was loyal and committed to his wife. He was a consummate teacher in life, finding a lesson to teach through every situation. He was fully accessible and open to the people around him --- he could literally talk to anyone about anything anywhere. His memory was strong and full; he never forgot a joke or a story or anyone's name. He was a natural story teller and could capture a rich level of detail with his words. He will be remembered as a very bright man who shared information with others that would stay with them for a lifetime. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was happiest when he had an audience or someone to tell a joke to. His giving nature and innate kindness made him a magnet for people. Everyone loved him. Perhaps his greatest strength of character was his commitment to being honest, with himself and with others. He had little tolerance for cheating and lying and could always be relied on to speak and practice the truth. He was a man of great character, high principles and a big heart. Although Herb loved all of his family, he had a special place in his heart for one family member named Chico, his loyal and loving Chihuahua. Herb had wanted a Chihuahua for many years, and when his wish finally came true and Chico entered his life, a fast friendship was formed.
Herbert was preceded in death by siblings Martha Lehr and Emil Sepper, and daughter-in-law Kelly Sepper. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Helgard Sepper of Aurora; sister Lydia of Edmonton, Canada: foster mother Kit Brauchle; foster sisters Phyllis, Debbie, Robbie, and foster brother Henry of San Antonio, Texas, and their extended families; two sons, Thomas (Mary Beth) of Littleton and John Peter (Kelly) of Aurora; two grandsons, Ryne and Jesse; and numerous nieces and nephews in Canada. he will be missed and fondly remembered by all.
Donations can be made in his memory to Christ The Savior Lutheran Church, 1092 S. Nome St, Aurora, CO 80012.
