Nancy Marie (Sherpa) French - 67, of Denver, Colorado, passed away peacefully the evening of December 30, 2013 at Lutheran Hospital Hospice at Collier Center after a long battle with cancer. Present at the time of her death were her devoted husband and son, two sisters, Mary and Irene, and a family friend. She was born December 6, 1946 in Syracuse, New York.
Surviving are her husband James H. (Frenchy) French of the home and son James F. (Jim) French of Aurora, Colorado; her parents Leo R. (Lee) Sherpa, Sr., and Genevieve (McGill) Sherpa of Canyon City, Colorado; four sisters, Irene Ryland of Canyon City, Colorado, Mary Sherpa of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Terry Juhas of Marion, Ohio and Debi Timm of Middle Island, New York; and four brothers, Leo R. Sherpa, Jr. of Canyon City, Colorado, James A. Sherpa of Carlisle, Pennsylvania, David Sherpa of San Diego, California and Michael Sherpa of Loveland, Colorado. She is preceded in death by a sister Catherine M. (Sherpa) Hippensteel.
As a child Nancy and her brother Leo battled and survived the dreaded polio epidemic of the 1950's. Nancy and Frenchy (originally from Boston, Massachusetts) married on September 25, 1965 in West Palm Beach Florida. The family resided in the West Palm Beach Florida area until 1985 when they moved to Colorado Springs where Nancy worked at Union Printers Home as a Nursing Assistant. Son Jim is employed in long term health care at Christian Living Community in Centennial, Colorado. Throughout her long illness her husband Frenchy was a compassionate and attentive caregiver. Nancy loved her pets and is deeply missed by the couple's beloved American Eskimo dog, Bandit. Her strong personality, loving nature and sharp sense of humor will be greatly missed by her family, neighbors and friends.
She was a beloved wife and mother and a member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Parish of Wheat Ridge, Colorado. Cremation services will be handled by Newcomer Funeral Home of Lakewood, Colorado and a Memorial Mass Service will be held at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church at 38th and Pierce on Friday, January 24, 2014 at 10:30 am in Wheat Ridge, Colorado.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Lutheran Hospital's Hospice at Collier Center in Nancy's name if desired.
