Norma Huston Cavender , 81, of Denver, passed away December 23, 2015.
She was born July 30, 1934 in Alton, Illinois, the daughter of Bernal and Flora (Dickey) Huston.
Norma was an Air Force wife for 17 years and during that time she lived in a variety of places including Sherman Texas, Anchorage Alaska (where she experienced the Anchorage Earthquake of 1964), Kenai Alaska, Ajo Arizona, and Phoenix Arizona.
She began the pursuit of her BA in Secondary Education at William and Clark, between her time in Kenai Alaska and Ajo Arizona.
After completing her degree she worked as a High School reading teacher at Agua Fria High School in Avondale Arizona. While at Agua Fria she became passionate about impacting students lives. This lead her to pursued and obtained her Masters degree in reading from Arizona State University.
Norma was divorced in 1971 and remarried to Robert (Bob) Cavender on August 13, 1977. The two met when Norma decided to attend dance classes for singles in the Phoenix area.
Bob's work situation eventually took the family to Aurora Colorado. In Aurora, Norma continued her work as a reading specialist at both South Middle School, and Columbia Middle School where she continued to make an impact on young lives until she retired due to health concerns in 1992.
Norma was an avid reader, enjoyed sewing and working on the computer. She was also a regular attendee at Faith Presbyterian Church in Aurora, Cornerstone Community Church, and most recently attended Windsor Garden Community Church.
Norma is survived by Two Sons, Michael H. (Cyndi) Irvin, Christopher H. (Laraine) Irvin; Step-Son, Michael (Dawn) Cavender; Sister, Melba (Dennis) Brickner; 6 Grandchildren; 2 Great Grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her Husband, Robert E. Cavender, Father, Bernal Huston, Mother, Flora Huston, Step-Son, Steven Cavender, Sister, Creta Huston.
