Norma Charline Woolard

September 5, 1925 — January 30, 2017

Norma Charline Woolard, 91, of Aurora, passed away January 30, 2017.

Norma was born and raised in Texas. After the passing of her father, she moved to Denver, Colorado, with her mother, sisters and brother. She met her future husband, Quentin Woolard, while working at Lowry Air Force Base in Denver. They were married in Denver on April 9, 1949. They brought five children in to the world while traveling at home and abroad with the United States Air Force.

As a young adult in the mid-1940's, Norma, her sister Betty and close friend Alice worked in Los Alamos, New Mexico. Some of her fondest memories were of the harried car trips they would take together back and forth between the two states in order to be with their respective families on weekends.

Retiring to Aurora, Colorado, in 1963, Quentin and Norma raised their children in the Christian faith. For many years they were members of First Baptist Church of Aurora. Later, the family attended and was active in the Lowry Air Force Base Main Chapel services and programs.

Norma loved gardening, canning her fresh produce and making jams and jellies. Her flowerbeds were carefully planned, planted and tended. They were to be envied in their beauty. In thinking of her, we cannot help but remember her gardens of flowers, fruits and vegetables. A large cherry tree graced her back yard and kept children and grand children climbing and picking through many, many June and July months.

Her kitchen was fragrant with hearty home-cooking. She had an open door and heart to family and friends. She loved her family, praying for each one by name. Precious beyond words to her were her grandchildren, several of whom she home-schooled.

Norma loved the Lord, Jesus Christ. She accepted Him into her heart as a preteen. One Sunday, when the preacher gave the invitation, she turned to her sister Betty and said, "I want to go down. Will you come with me?". She further related, "Betty took my arm and we went down together! I've never been sorry I did. I've been happy ever since. I love my Lord, Jesus!"

She enjoyed reading and was a serious Bible student, and could often be found studying her Bible, commentaries and concordances. She took voluminous notes. Her family often heard "mom" laughing over jokes and funny stories in "the Reader's Digest" - a constant publication in the home. And, many loved ones were recipients of copies of her favorite inspirational short stories from "Guideposts" magazine. She read novels, biographies, history and articles of current and international interest. She was an avid fan of crossword puzzles, and played a mean game of Scrabble.

Norma was politically informed and astute. Through the years, she served at her local polling booth, registered voters, and supported her party by volunteering her services in her city and, especially, her neighborhood.

Most notably to all who knew and loved her, Norma was a quiet woman of great faith, a prayer warrior who, standing steadfastly with her Savior, was a strong mooring and rock to her family.

Norma is survived by her children, Debra (John Allen) Bender, Michael Woolard, Ainsle (Mark) Rittich, Marsha (Fred) Davenport, and Quentin K. (Kelli) Woolard; ten grandchildren, Mark (Toni) Bender, Heidi (Jodie) Bodine, Hannah (Chris) Woolard, Joshua (Kaeden) Rittich, Sarah (Ronald) Campbell, Jason (Chelsey) Dingbaum, Chrissy (Jerad) Block, Johnny Dingbaum, Brittaney (Devin) Adamson, and Jeremiah Woolard; fifteen great-grandchildren; brother, Donald King; brother-in-law, Robert Hardwick; three special family members, Rick Bender, Leon Dingbaum, and Joni Dammen; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Quentin Gordon Woolard; parents, Charles and Mellie King; and sisters, Helen Jones, Bonnie Ptashinski, Betty Aitchison, and Elizabeth Hardwick.
