Olymbia Stevie Berger

June 6, 1925 — August 17, 2017

Olymbia Stevie Berger, formally of Lakewood, Colorado, died in Arvada on August 17, 2017 after dealing with complications of congestive heart failure for the last five years. She was 92 years old.

Born on June 6, 1925 in Lisbon, Ohio to Demitrios Hadjicosih (James Steve) of Pelandary and Evanea Eugenia Sheolidy of Proussa, Turkey. Stevie married Thomas Lester Berger in Pittsburg, PA on June 21, 1945 and after making a home in Salem, Ohio, in 1956 moved to Lakewood, Colorado with their two children, Karen Ann Berger and Thomas Steven Berger.

Stevie was a homemaker and supporter of her husband's art and watercolor painting career. Stevie took on the role of a managing assistant delivering art work, manning gallery shift schedules at the Evergreen Art Gallery and the Foothills Art Center in Golden and dealing with mail and correspondence. Tom and Stevie liked to travel; they would take off for the weekend to deliver artwork to galleries in the Rocky Mountain region and drive with the convertible top down. They made several trips abroad, the visit to the Parthenon and the Panathenaic Stadium in Athens, Greece were the highlights of her visits to Europe, Hawaii and New Zealand. Besides travel Stevie had a lifelong interest in philately and kept an eye on the US postal "Date of Issue" bulletins to buy full sheets of stamps. In the mid 60s Stevie began her study of graphology and thereafter delighted in receiving mail and holiday greetings from friends and family to practice her craft. She also collected Native American jewelry and art. Stevie was very proud of her Greek heritage and her name, Olymbia.

She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Thomas Berger of Arvada and her son TS Berger of Fort Collins. Stevie had six grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Stevie is predeceased by her parents and sister Kathryn Wolf of Portland, Oregon as well as her daughter, Karen Berger Croy.

Burial will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver. There will be no funeral or service as were her wishes. In lieu of flowers, she requested that a donation be made to the Foothills Art Center, 809 15th Street Golden, CO 80401.
