Orval W. Lehman passed away early Tuesday morning, March 27, 2012, in Denver, Colorado surrounded by his family.
Born February 22, 1927, in Manhattan, MT to Boid and Clara Lehman, he was the youngest of six brothers and sisters. In high school, one of his summer jobs included running a pack mule supply line into fire lookouts. He left high school to join the Navy during WWII, returning to graduate in Manhattan in 1946.
On May 22, 1949 he married Marlys Tjepkes, of Thermopolis. They started their family in Manhattan/Bozeman area, returning to Thermopolis in 1955, where he began working for Empire State Oil. He transferred to Hamilton Dome as the field electrician, eventually overseeing the installation of the field automation. The family lived there until 1964, when they relocated back to Thermopolis. After his time with Empire, he worked for Automation Electronics of Casper, WY, Lehman Electric Rewinders, Jadeco Electric and operated Lehman Electric until his retirement.
His interests included camping, family gatherings and working on his home. He and Marlys were instrumental in starting the Thanksgiving Dinner tradition at the VFW to serve people who were not able to join family and friends during the holiday.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings. The love of his life, Marlys, passed away in Thermopolis, April 25, 2010. Survivors include his daughters, Candace Ponessa, of Miles City, MT and Tami Yeaman of Casper, WY; sons, Rick (Annette) of Strasburg, CO and Steve (Roseann Rice) of Seattle, WA; 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place and a graveside memorial is planned for May 12 at Riverside Cemetery in Thermopolis.
