Paul Dag Engstrom

Paul Dag Engstrom passed away peacefully at home in Denver on Tuesday, surrounded by the comfort of the place he loved. He was 59 years old.

Paul was born on September 14, 1966, to David and Virgie Engstrom, who preceded him in death as did his namesake uncle, Dr. Paul F Engstrom. He is survived by his daughter Cheyenne, former wife Denise Litz and three brothers, Mark (wife Julie), Richard, and John (wife Karen); his nieces and nephews, Chandler, Dalton, Danielle, Madison, Jackson, Parker, and Weston.

Paul grew up in Rochester, Michigan, where he attended Rochester High School. He excelled both academically and athletically, earning a place on the school's marine fitness team, which went on to win the National Championship in Washington, D.C. His determination and quiet discipline would remain hallmarks of his life.

Following high school, Paul moved to Colorado in 1985 and attended Colorado College. He then attended Stanford University before returning to Colorado College to earn his degree in Mathematics. Throughout his career, Paul applied his analytical mind and practical creativity in a variety of fields. He worked as a transportation planner and designer for engineering firms and the Colorado Department of Transportation and also spent time in construction, materials manufacturing, and concrete work.

Paul married Denise Litz, and together they welcomed their daughter, Cheyenne, who brought him great pride and joy.

Those who knew Paul knew him as a kind, thoughtful man who was always willing to lend a hand. He possessed a remarkable ability to solve problems, build almost anything, and envision creative solutions where others saw obstacles. One of his proudest accomplishments was designing and building his own home with the help of family and friends—a lasting reflection of both his craftsmanship and determination.

Paul found his greatest happiness in simple pleasures: spending time with family, caring for dogs, skiing, enjoying water sports, and embracing the beauty of the outdoors. Whether working on a project, sharing time with loved ones, or enjoying Colorado's mountains and lakes, he lived with curiosity, humility, and a genuine appreciation for life.

Paul's quiet generosity, intelligence, and gentle spirit will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, and the memories shared by those who loved him.
