Philip Martin Munroe (Coach) was born in Spokane Washington on June 5th, 1922. He passed away in Littleton Colorado on March 1st, 2014 at the age of 91.
Phil was raised by his parents in Spokane, along with his three sisters and one brother. He joined and served in the United States Army during WWII. While in the Army, Phil met Myra Lee Travis at a USO dance in Dallas Texas. After his discharge from the Army Phil returned to Dallas and married Myra on June 15th, 1946. They moved to the Spokane area and started their family.
Phil received his Bachelors Degree from Washington State University and his Masters Degree from the University of Southern California. After graduating from USC Phil and Myra stayed and raised their family in southern California.
He coached various sports at the high school and college level. Most notably he was the first baseball coach for California State University at Northridge. Phil coached and taught at the university for 30 years and was inducted into the University's Sports Hall of Fame in 1986.
Phil and Myra moved to Littleton Colorado in 1988. Myra went to be with the Lord on September 25th, 1992. They are survived by their three children: Doug Munroe, Dave Munroe and Phyllis Rhoades. They are also survived by seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Phil is preceded in death by his parents, David and Clara Munroe, his wife Myra, his sister Betty Towner and great granddaughters Audree Seeley and Hope Rhoades.
Graveside services will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery March 11th at 12:00 pm Staging Area A.
