Polly Ann Robins, age 90, passed away on Thursday, December 25, 2025, at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Lakewood, Colorado. She will forever be remembered as a devoted, strong, and loving mother, wife, and faithful friend.
Polly was born to Matthew King and Margaret Cross along with her fraternal twin sister Mary Jo (Welch) on a very cold, snowy day in the winter of 1935. A few years later, one more sister, Betsy Lou (Tatum) would join the family. She grew up in Wichita Falls, Texas, and graduated from Wichita Falls Senior High School in 1953. She went on to graduate from North Texas State College in 1956 with a bachelor’s degree in the social sciences.
A new position working in fundraising for the Colorado Tuberculosis Association brought her to Denver in 1957. She later became a part of the secretarial pool at the Martin Company. At the Martin Company was a young engineer named Edwin Robins who started a carpool purely to meet secretaries. Polly became a part of the carpool, and they started dating. They broke up briefly. During this period, Polly took a job teaching 6th grade in Palisade, Colorado. One Christmas some friends suggested that Polly reach out to Ed while she was in Denver for the holiday. They resumed their relationship, and Ed started making the long drive to Palisade on weekends to see her. The relationship moved quickly, and by April they were engaged. They were married on June 30, 1962, at South Sheridan Baptist Church by Pastor Ed Nelson.
Once she was married, Polly became a full-time homemaker. Ed and Polly welcomed a daughter, Nancy, in 1964, and a son, Jim, in 1967. She loved being a wife and mother and felt it was the best job in the world. Her faith in Jesus was very precious to her. She and Ed raised their children to know Jesus at a young age. She spent time daily reading the Bible and praying, and the family attended South Sheridan Baptist Church (which became Red Rocks Baptist) for many years.
Ed passed in 2008. Polly spent a lot of time cultivating relationships with family and friends. She sent cards for every holiday and special occasion. She learned how to use her computer to email. She also spent a lot of time researching topics which interested her such as personal finance, health, decorating, and cooking. She was faithful to balance her checkbook every month and track her investments. In addition, Polly watched Fox News faithfully as she cared about our country and world and wanted to know what was happening in current events.
In her later years, her son Jim moved in with her and due to his loving care, she was able to remain in the home she loved until the last few months of her life. Unfortunately, she suffered a fall which caused a fractured hip and brought her to a skilled nursing facility for her last few months.
She really wanted to be home for Christmas. While it wasn’t possible for her to be at her earthly home for Christmas, she entered her final, eternal, perfect home in Heaven on Christmas Day.
Polly is survived by her daughter, Nancy (Robins) Buckner, her son James (Jim) Robins, her son-in-law David Buckner, her nieces and nephews Janet Welch, Margaret Welch, John Tatum Jr., and Stacy (Tatum) Collins, and her brother-in-law John Tatum, Sr.
