Rafael "Ralph" Gilbert Chavez , 85, of Denver, Colorado passed away on Saturday February 15, 2014 at Cherry Creek Nursing Center.
He was born December 20, 1928, in Trinidad, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his wife Frances Chavez; his parents, Casimario and Alcaria Chavez; brothers, Rudy Chavez and Johnny Chavez; sister Angela Salazar.
He is survived by his seven children: Bonnie Lazoya, Richard Chavez, Lupe (Campbell Pearson) Gallegos, Pauline Archuleta, Rebecca (the late Ben) Quintana, Victoria (George) Velasquez and Sylvia (the late Frank) Quintana; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren.
He is also survived by his siblings: Reyes Trujillo and Thomas Chavez, both from La Junta, Colorado; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
He enjoyed the outdoors, bike riding, horseback riding, fishing, hunting, and camping.
He retired from King Soopers where he drove an 18-wheeler semi truck with a perfect record of no accidents.
