Ralph Clinton Miller died Saturday morning at his home in Westminster. He was 87.
Clinton was born on November 1, 1925 the son of Ralph Clinton Miller Sr. and Helen Baker in Longmont. He was a descendant of Lafayette and Mary Miller, the founders of Lafayette.
After graduating from Lafayette High School in 1943, Clinton volunteered to serve in the Coast Guard where he served honorably in the South Pacific as an Electronic Technician. He would later share his love of Hawaii and the South Pacific with his wife, Welcome.
After he returned from the war, Ralph met Louisville's Welcome Laura Henning. They were married in 1947 and were together until Welcome's death this March.
Ralph attended CU as a chemistry major, and, despite impeccable grades, chose to leave CU prior to graduation to pursue a career in the fledgling television industry. He packed Welcome and their infant daughter, Laurinda, into a Model T and drove to Washington D.C. where he enrolled at Capitol Radio Engineering Institute (now Capitol College). Ralph earned his bachelor's degree and went on to be a founding technical engineer at Denver's CBS affiliate, KLZ Channel 7. He spent his entire working life at the station that would become KMGH and retired in 1987 as one of Colorado's television pioneers.
In addition to Laurinda, Ralph is survived by his son, Russell Clinton, as well as four grandsons and three great granddaughters.
Ralph was an active member of the Presbyterian church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Arvada Center where Ralph and Welcome volunteered for decades.
