Raymond Paul Fresquez, of Denver, Colorado, age 84, passed away peacefully in his home on July 6, 2025.

Raymond is survived by his wife of 65 years, Shirley Ann Martinez, daughter Rae Ann Martinez (James Greg), daughter Sherry Fresquez, son Rodney Fresquez, and daughter Kimberly Fresquez. Grandchildren: Owen, Desirae, Lauren, Rodney, Jr., Brandi, Robert, Randy, and Brianna. Greatgrandchildren: Ashley, Giana, Lexann, Izaiah, Izabella, Braiden, Hailey, Garin, Sable, Pyper, and Mireya. He is preceded in death by his parents Juan and Mary (Maria) Fresquez of Milliken, Colorado; his siblings Lucy Lewis, Benny Fresquez, Elsie Chavez, Alfred Fresquez, Mary Solano, Tony Fresquez, Laura Fresquez, Amy Fresquez, two sets of twins, and his granddaughter Brandi Racine Fresquez. He was born on March 20, 1941, in Milliken, Colorado, to Juan and Mary (Maria) Fresquez. He graduated from Milliken High School in 1959. He married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Ann Martinez on October 10, 1959. They moved to Denver, Colorado. Raymond’s trade was a meat-cutter, he worked for Safeway, Albertson’s, Tony Meat’s, and retired from King Soopers Grocery Store. Raymond was a strong man of faith, devoted to his Christian beliefs. He was a great family man, a faithful husband, a loving father, grandfather, godfather, friend, and “Favorite Uncle” for many of his nieces and nephews.

Raymond was an avid sportsman since his youth he played baseball and basketball. He continued his passion for sports by becoming a coach for various baseball and basketball teams over the years. R & S (Ray & Shirley) All Stars, Lakewood High School, Arrupe Jesuit High School, and Machebeuf High School. In 2005, Machebeuf boy’s baseball team won their first 3A State Championship; with a 23-2 record for the season. As a Colorado native, he loved the Colorado professional sports teams: The Denver Broncos, The Denver Nuggets, Colorado Rockies, and the Colorado Avalanche. In 1977, I remember Dad made all of his family drink Orange Crush Soda so that he would have enough empty cans to have an Orange Crush Denver Broncos Christmas Tree to celebrate them going to their first Super Bowl XII. Which he then attended in New Orleans, Louisiana.

He enjoyed spending time with his family camping, fishing, golfing, and having long wisdom filled life discussions sitting on his front porch. He exercised six-days a week in his two home gyms; he was convinced that is why he was able to live such a long, healthy, and fulfilled life. Another passion of his was his loving devotion to his many dogs over the years; Sugar Ray, Bear, Ginger (#1), Ginger (#2), Bandit, Kiki, and Riley Boy. He also enjoyed being the caretaker for his granddogs Boomer and Zoey.

His family and friends will always remember him as a Man of God, his strong faith in Jesus Christ, a faithful husband, a loving father, grandfather, coach, mentor, and confidant.

In his final days, surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren, Raymond spoke about his homegoing and shared the word of Jesus Christ, as he often did, to serve as a reminder to his family; through Jesus Christ is the only way to one day be reunited with him in Heaven.

He was comforted in knowing that he would soon be reunited with his mother Mary (Maria) Fresquez who passed away when he was 10-years old, his father Juan Fresquez, granddaughter Brandi Fresquez, and all of his beloved siblings who passed before him.

Raymond now and forever will live in our hearts. He will be loved and missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He was a man of honor, a pilar of strength, and the foundation of his beautiful family; he and Shirley created over their 65-year love story.

We are eternally grateful for your love, wisdom, and devotion to each and every one of us. We find comfort in knowing you are now our guardian angel in Heaven.
