Raymond D. Ortiz , 72, of Denver, passed away September 6, 2017.
He was born October 9, 1944 in Hastings, Nebraska, the son of Joseph and Jean (Rodriguez) Ortiz. He was a graduate of McCook High School and went on to valiantly serve his country with the U.S. Navy. He later attended Red Rocks Community College. On June 4, 1977, he married Anna Ortiz, of Denver. He was a hard worker, devoting many years to the Jefferson County School District.
He will be remembered best for his dedication to and love of his family, his kindness, strong will, and a great sense of humor. To those closest to him, he was always a kid at heart and his fun-loving spirit could brighten anyone's day.
During his life, Raymond enjoyed traveling to Black Hawk and Las Vegas. He loved the outdoors -- swimming in the sand pit, playing baseball and chasing frogs as a kid, pheasant hunting and fishing as he got older, teaching his kids how to snag crawdads in the creek, and catching as many fireworks shows as he could every Fourth of July. He also loved watching football, particularly the Broncos.
Raymond is survived by his loving wife Anna Ortiz, daughter Jean Ortiz, grandsons Noah Ortiz and Ben Cochran, four brothers, one sister, dozens of nieces and nephews, other extended family, and many friends. He is preceded in death by father Joseph Ortiz, mother Jean Ortiz, son William D. Ortiz, and brother Charlie Ortiz.
