Regina C. Abeyta

May 11, 1960 — June 17, 2025

Regina C. Abeyta, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, partner, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2025, surrounded by love. Born on May 11, 1960, in Denver, Colorado, Regina grew up in West Denver, where she formed lifelong friendships and cultivated the vibrant spirit that would define her life. She graduated from North High School, where she was known for her charisma, sense of style, and joyful presence.

She was the proud mother of two sons, Matthew Basquez (Raylene) and Dominique Basquez, and the adoring grandmother of five: Mikayla (21), Gabriel (18), Eden (16), Azalea (11), and Bella (4). Her family was her greatest joy, and she cherished every moment spent with them.

Regina had a strong work ethic and a passion for service. She worked for many years at Union Pacific Railroad, and later at Heritage Christian Church, where she formed meaningful relationships and served with compassion and care. She was also the proud founder of Hands of Excellence, a cleaning service through which she served countless clients with diligence, grace, and pride.

Regina was a woman of strong Christian faith who walked in God’s favor. A lifelong lover of music, she was a devoted fan of Prince and a regular at jazz festivals—the Winter Park Jazz Festival was one of her favorites. She traveled extensively with some of her closest friends, exploring the world with wonder and gratitude. Her stories were filled with laughter, light, and love.

She gave generously—of her time, her words, her presence, and her heart. She had a gift for making others feel special and seen, and her smile could brighten even the darkest day.

Regina is survived by her partner, Aaron Smith; her sons, grandchildren, and daughter-in-law, Raylene Basquez; her sister, Elizabeth Shipley; and the father of her children, Matthew Basquez. She is also survived by a loving extended family and a wide circle of friends who treasured her.

She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Ruby Janet Martinez and Roger Abeyta, as well as her siblings: Rufino Trujillo Jr., Ray Trujillo, Julian Trujillo, Sam Vigil Sr., Roger Abeyta, and Roberta Abeyta.

Regina’s legacy is one of joy, connection, and unconditional love. Her memory will continue to inspire all who carry her in their hearts.
