Richard David Coca, of Denver, Colo., passed away on Saturday, June 21, 2014. He was 80 years old. Richard was born in Denver, Colorado on Feb. 22, 1934 and grew up in a tight-knit family with no shortage of uncles and aunties and cousins to pass away the time with. He was a well-respected local amateur boxer in his early years, earning a trip to a national competition in Chicago, which he ranked as one of his proudest moments.
Richard worked for many years in the trucking industry and eventually moved to Los Angeles, California where he lived for decades alongside his brothers before moving back to his native Colorado in his later years.
Richard, or "Coca" to his close friends, had a sharp wit and a loving heart and was the kind of man who didn't shy away from a good time. He loved fishing, jazz music and spending time with his family. Although he never had children of his own, he had scores of nieces and nephews who, along with their children, fawned over their uncle with more than a few referring to him as "grandpa." His loss is deeply felt and he will be missed by family and friends alike.
Richard is survived by his brother, Fred Coca Jr. He is preceded in death by his parents Fred and Nora Coca, sister Betty Ann and brothers Porfirio and Frank Coca. May he rest in peace and enjoy the company of all the loved ones waiting for him in our Lord's kingdom.
