Richard Earle Miller, known to many as Rich, passed away suddenly on October 20, 2026. He was born on August 2, 1949, in Mojave, California, and lived a life marked by steady devotion, enduring interests, and deep affection for the people and companions he loved.
Rich graduated from Pocatello, Idaho High School in 1967, a milestone that marked the beginning of the years that followed with their own quiet purpose and character. On July 27, 1976, he married Kathleen Degen, beginning a partnership that would last 50 years.
He found joy in the simple and lasting pleasures of life. Rich enjoyed camping and restoring antique classic cars, pursuits that spoke to both his appreciation for the outdoors and his patient care for craftsmanship and history. He also loved his dogs, Riley and Freddie, whose companionship brought warmth and happiness to his days.
Above all, Rich will be remembered within the circle of those who knew and loved him best. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Degen, his sister-in-law, Lisa Degen; his brother-in-law, Alan Degen; and by his nieces; Emma Berkenblit, Crystal Schutt, and his nephew, AJ Degen. Their memories of him, shaped by family ties, shared years, and familiar moments, will remain a lasting part of his legacy.
He was preceded in death by his father, Herman H. Miller Jr., his mother, Evangeline Witham Miller, as well as by his sisters, Marcia Jean Miller and Betty Jo Schutt. Their lives were part of the foundation from which his own was formed.
Rich’s life was one of loyalty, love, and genuine enjoyment of the things that mattered most to him. He leaves behind the memory of a husband who will be deeply missed, a family member whose presence will be missed, and a man who took pleasure in the enduring beauty of old cars, open-air camping, and the faithful company of his dogs, Riley and Freddie. He will be remembered with love and appreciation by all who knew him.
