Richard Jamieson Merritt passed away Monday, February 24th 2014.
He was born June 30th, 1946 to Elmer and Eleanor Merritt in Englewood, Colorado. Rich graduated from Brighton High School and went on to University of Southern Colorado in Pueblo. He married Cathryn Bartholomew in 1969 and they lived together in Aurora for 23 years. Rich and Cay have remained best friends.
Rich retired as a Public Works Inspector for the City of Longmont. He was an avid fisherman, bird hunter and a fan of all types of auto racing. Rich especially loved spending time with his family at the Cabin. Rich was known for his kind heart, slightly inappropriate sense of humor and his contagious laugh.
He is survived by his children, Damon and his wife Laura Merritt and Alison and her husband David Herrmann as well as his beloved dog, Zeke. Rich is also
survived by his brother Allen; sister Kathy and brother in law, Randy, as well as numerous nephews and nieces. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Janet and brother, Gerald.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to The American Lung Association or Maxfund. Rich would also be honored if a donation were made to the charity of your choice.
A casual open house to celebrate Rich's life will be held at 17295 E Wesley Ave, Aurora 80013 11 am to 4 pm Sunday, March 2nd.
