Richard K. Larson

Richard K. Larson, 80, of Arvada, passed away November 21, 2014.

He was born January 24, 1934 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Carl and Anna (Knutson) Larson. The family moved to Denver due to his asthma when he was about eleven years old. He attended Denver Public Schools and dropped out to enlist in the Navy. Later he received a GED. Before deciding to attend college, he worked at Dow Chemical northwest of Denver. He graduated from Dana College in Blair, Nebraska where he met his wife to be, Carol Madsen. On August 30, 1959 they married at Kenmare, North Dakota. He first attended graduate school at Moorhead Minnesota State University and then taught sixth grade at Casselton, North Dakota for two years. After moving back to the Denver Area he taught special education Kepner Junior High School in Denver. During summers, he attended the University of Northern Colorado where he received a Specialist degree in psychology and his Ed.D. of which he was so very proud after not having graduated himself, from high school. He enjoyed teaching numerous in-service classes for DPS teachers as well as adult classes at Holy Cross Lutheran Church.

Richard is survived by his wife of 55 years; daughter, Anna-Marie (Damon) Larson; two sons, Mark (Kathryn) Larson, John Larson; eight grandchildren, Daniel (Meaghan) Winckler, Owen Larson, Nicholas Larson, Benjamin Larson, Luke Larson, Jacob Larson, Levi Larson, Samuel Larson; great-grandchild, Ava Winckler; brother, Roger Larson; sister, Shirley (Robert) Hines; sister-in-law, Arline Larson; two nephews, Bill (Mo) Larson, and Jeffrey Morgan; three nieces, Lisa (Brent) Hall, Deborah Larson and Carol Stephens. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Larson; and niece, Mary Lyn Larson.

The past five plus years of his life he spent at New Dawn Memory Care, Alzheimer's facility.

At Richard's request, there will be a private family interment service at Holy Cross Lutheran Columbarium at a later date.
