Rita Beatrice Smarrito passed away in Aurora, CO on August 9, 2015
She was born in Bronx, N. Y. on October 8, 1919, the middle child of Eduardo Amato and Maria (DeFazio) Amato. Rita was an excellent cook and enjoyed cooking for family and friends and always had a smile for everyone. She and her husband Tony were owners of a dress factory where she worked as a seamstress until her retirement in 1981. She then moved to Florida where she joined several of her siblings in retirement. In 2014 she moved to Colorado to spend her remaining years with her son and family.
Rita was preceded in death by her husband Tony Smarrito, daughter Elaine Giardina, brother Vincent Amato, and sisters Anna Golankiewicz and Esther Palmieri. She is survived by son Alfred Giardina, grandson Gregory Giardina, granddaughter Deanna Giardina-Heffern, great-granddaughter Gracie Giardina, sister Blanche Vicinanza and many nieces and nephews.
Rita will be cremated and her ashes will be buried with her beloved husband Tony in Bushnell National Cemetery, Florida.
A memorial dinner to celebrate her life will be held at Odyssey Italian Restaurant in Denver, Co on Saturday August 15, 2015.
