Robert A. Krane

November 17, 1933 — March 24, 2016

Robert A. Krane, 82, of Denver, passed away March 24, 2016.

He was born November 17, 1933 in Bloomfield, Iowa, the second son of seven children to Arnold and Ruth (Power) Krane. A graduate of Fairfield High School, he earned a business degree from University of Iowa and attended Columbia Graduate School of Banking. On June 12, 1954, he married Marcia Fry of Fairfield, Iowa.

After serving four years as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army, Bob embarked on a career in the financial services industry that spanned thirty years. His long-time tenure with Norwest Bank Corporation included executive positions in Des Moines, Omaha and Minneapolis. He completed his career in Denver where he joined Central Bank and served as President and CEO.

Civic endeavors were a priority for Bob throughout his career including leadership roles with United Way, Boy Scouts of America, Chamber of Commerce, Jaycees, and University of Denver. He served on many boards: ConAgra, College of St. Catherine, Knights of Aksarben, Big Brothers, the Common Trust, and St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha. Bob was also a longtime member of Rotary Club and YPO (Young Presidents' Organization).

Retirement allowed Bob to split his time between his homes in Denver and Rio Verde, Arizona. He avidly pursued his passion for golf, physical fitness, motorcycle touring, diverse travel and astronomy. Spending time with family and friends was a priority for Bob. His family especially remembers his commitment, integrity, strength of character, and love of family.

Bob is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marcia; children Kristin (Stephen) Hansen, Alan (Heidi) Krane, Kathi (Chris) Rank, Andrew (Amy) Krane; Chris Payne; grandchildren Marshall (Teigan Hockman) Edwards, Nicholas Krane, Elisabeth Krane, Jennifer Krane, Megan Krane, Grayson Rank, and William Krane; step-grandchildren, Felicia (Kevin) Barge, Valerie (Jay) Swearingen, Nathan (Heidi) Hansen, and Adam (Katie) Hansen; and eleven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sister Linda (Pam Tibbetts) Ellwein, and brother Sigmund Krane.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and Arnold, and four siblings: Scott Krane, Randi Kreunen, John Krane, and Karen Krane.

The family is planning a remembrance gathering in Fairfield, IA, in June. Memorial contributions may be made to The Denver Hospice, 501 S. Cherry Street, Suite 700, Denver, CO 80246 or Western Golf Association Colorado Evans Scholars Foundation, 1029 Broadway Street, Boulder, CO 80302.
