Robert Dean Turley

April 13, 1935 — November 29, 2013

Robert Dean "Bob" Turley was born on April 13, 1935, in Goodland, Kansas, to Leonard Sampson and Alice Belle (Freeland) Turley. The youngest of four children, Bob was called "Poodle" by his siblings by the time he was six years old.
A standout high school basketball player, Bob attended Kansas State University briefly in the early 1950s. During his freshman year, over 100 men attempted to walk on the Wildcats' basketball team; Bob was one of the 12 who made the team. He left Manhattan within the year and later attended Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma. While there he stayed with his uncle Earl before completing his bachelor's degree in accounting at Fort Hays State University.
Bob lived most of his life in Kansas, Michigan, Tennessee and Colorado. He often spoke of his love of driving a truck for a living; he savored the solitude on the open road. A handsome and charismatic man, Bob was an avid golfer in his younger days.
Bob died after a short illness on November 29, 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Doris Eileen Turley and Norma Janice (Turley) Wimsatt. He is survived by his brother Jerry Turley and his wife Kathryn; his niece Ali James and her husband Bill; his daughter Dana Olsen and children Delaney and Dylan; and his son Devon Turley, his wife Steph and children Hayden and Rowan; Bob's beloved cat Misty; several cousins, nieces and nephews; and by his former sister-in-law Davona Patterson and her husband Mark, their son James and daughter Madison. Bob is also survived by those he considered to be his family in Denver including his best friend and primary caregiver Tom Clarius; his mother Diane Christopherson; neighbors Billy Kabakovich and Jerry Simmons; friends Lisa Simmons, Scott Tousling and Tina Starlet; and his long-term and very close friend Butch Morehart, his wife Karen and their daughters Jahmie and Crissy.
All of Bob's family and friends heartily thank his primary care physician Dr. Darwin Strickland and his caring staff; as well as his surgeon, Dr. Doru Georgescu and his Oncologist, Dr. William Lee.
A celebration of his life will be held the weekend of May 31, 2014, in Denver. Details will follow.
