Robert E. Leeney, age 84, passed away on September 2, 2015, at his home in Aurora, Colorado.
Bob was born on January 28, l931 to Charles and Rose (Konratt) Leeney in Chicago, Illinois. He graduated from Chicago Vocational School where he developed an interest in machine drafting.
Bob joined the navy in l951 during the Korean War. He spent four years on the USS Sea Robin (SS-407) where he went from Seaman Second-Class to Electrician Mate First-Class.
Bob married Marilyn Xaver of Plymouth, Indiana on September 12, l953. They had three children- Jane, Michael and Charles. They lived in Plymouth for 30 years. During that time, Bob managed the Corner Mart grocery store in Argos, worked for Farm Bureau Insurance, and was a draftsman at McCords. His passion, however, was gardening.
Bob moved to Aurora, Colorado in l986 where he worked in property management. When he retired, he did remodeling for friends and family. Bob enjoyed watching his three grandchildren, Lauren, Kristen and Carson, growing up in Colorado. He was very involved in their school and sporting events. Gardening also continued to be a great source of enjoyment.
During the last few years, Bob became involved with the Rocky Mountain Submarine Base, where he was the storekeeper. He participated in many activities and fundraisers with this organization.
Bob is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marilyn; his daughter, Jane Hosek; and sons, Michael(Jana) and Charles Leeney. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Lauren and Kristen Hosek, and Carson Leeney.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters- Geri, LaVerne, Joan and Carol, and his brother, Pat.
Interment will take place on September 16, 2015 at Fort Logan National Cemetery at 9:00 AM. A memorial service will follow at 10:30 at Newcomer West Funeral Home. A luncheon will be held at the American Legion, 6230 W. 60th Ave. in Arvada, at 12:30.
