The eldest of 5 brothers and 1 sister, "Bobby" was loved by all who knew him. He lived on a farm in Oklahoma for all of his youth, where he attended Bushyhead School, and graduated from Chelsea High School. He entered the United States Air Force in 1955, where he served for 23 years. One of his first tours of duty was in Germany. On a visit to The Netherlands, he met his beautiful wife Ria Hilhorst. Together, they had four children, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
While in the military, Bob was a Loadmaster on the C-130 aircraft for the majority of his career. He served with distinction in the Vietnam War, and Cambodia, where he earned numerous medals, including 7 Gallant Unit Citations for Outstanding Heroism in Combat, The Presidential Unit Citation for Extraordinary Heroism in Action Against and Armed Enemy, The Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. He was most proud of his 17 Air Medals for Single Acts of Heroism While Participating in Aerial Flight and The Distinguished Flying Cross.
After he retired, Bob was most happy while hunting, camping, boating, fishing, fly tying, building his cherished replica Black Powder Rifles and pistols, reading from his Bible, or spending time with his family.
He was many things, but above all, a good man who loved his family. We look forward to seeing him in our future lifetime in heaven.
