Robert J. Brust

January 6, 1935 — October 29, 2012

Robert J. Brust "Buddy" (on the right), passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, October 29, 2012.

Buddy was born January 6, 1935, in Maspeth, New York. The oldest of 3 children, buddy has a sister, Ruth Florio, who resides in Florida, and William (Billy), who preceded Buddy in death.

When Buddy was about 10 years old, he contracted encephalitis caused by a mosquito or tick bite. He was in a coma for about 10 months. Buddy was one of 2 known cases, at the time, who made a full recovery.

Buddy graduated from Sewanhaka High School, in Floral Park, NY. He became a Butcher by trade. After years working in refrigerated conditions, he was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis and, as a result, he retired as a Butcher.
He became a school bus driver afterwards. His health began to decline, diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure and Emphysema.

In 1990, Buddy moved to Colorado to live with his daughter, Josie and her family, taking wonderful care of his 2 granddaughters, Chiara and Giuliana.

He had 2 other children; Dolores (DeeDee) being the oldest, and Robert, Jr., his middle child and only son, who preceded him in death in 2002.
Buddy loved fishing and made trips all over Colorado with his friends.

In his later years, Buddy was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease and suffered a stroke in October 2011. The combination of which proved to be too much for him.
Buddy is survived by his sister Ruthie, his daughters, Josie, and DeeDee, who resides in Elmont, NY, and his grandchildren; Duran Brust, who resides in Florida, James (Jimmy) DeFalco, Jr., residing in Malverne, NY, Chiara and Giuliana, of Colorado, and nephew, William (Billy) Brust, Jr., who resides in Idaho.

Buddy was a wonderful, sensitive, and caring man who will be greatly missed.
A memorial Service will be held in the Summer of 2013, when his ashes will be scattered in Lake Granby. Buddy has "Gone Fishin'".
