Robert Ross Walden was born August 29, 1940 at St. Joseph's Hospital
in Denver, Colorado, to Robert Charles Walden and Thada May (Ross)
Walden. He passed peacefully from life of apparent sudden heart failure while sleeping at home in Wheat Ridge, CO on December 11, 2015.
Bob, along with his parents and his sister, Barbara Walden Sileo, lived in Colorado Springs, Denver, Pueblo, Salt Lake City, UT, Grand Junction, and Wheat Ridge, CO while growing up. He enjoyed spending time with his maternal grandparents, Clifford and Addie Ross, pioneers of Denver. Spending time in the mountains and outdoors of Colorado was a favorite pastime of his. Graduated Wheat Ridge High School in 1958. Attended Colorado University. Married Leslie Frances Roach on April 9, 1960.
Worked as a draftsman for Lockheed Martin before pursuing and completing his degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery through Denver University and Indiana University in Indianapolis in 1966. Having become a Christian at the age of 9, he settled into a growing faith in 1970. Upon returning to Denver in 1966, Dr. Walden established a dental practice in Denver, later moving to Wheat Ridge and Lakewood.
He practiced dentistry for over 45 years. He pioneered the use of alternative substances for dental fillings to avoid using toxic mercury silver fillings, more than 15 years before it became commonplace. He had a strong desire to help people find a deep and life changing relationship with God through our savior, Jesus Christ and found joy in sharing his own story of redemption. Medical Missions work began in earnest in 1994 to Romania, followed by Albania, Afghanistan and finally Ethiopia in 2011. He loved helping people and often did his dental work for free to people who could not afford to pay.
Throughout his entire life, he enjoyed spending time in the mountains of Colorado, jeeping, camping and fishing with friends and family. Some of his favorite places were Glenwood Springs, Grand Lake, and Yampa, Colorado. Often, he would take his jeep and drive over difficult trails to the end of the road, wherever that might lead him.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Leslie, four children - Mark Walden, Mary Hernandez, Christine Detwiler and Stephen Walden and their spouses, nine grandchildren and one great grand child. He was a man who loved his family and God and put others needs above his own.
