Robert Wendell (Bob) Bakke

Robert Bakke, 80, of Aurora, CO. passed away Wednesday March 7th, 2012 at the Colorado State Veterans Home at Fitzsimions.
He is survived by his son, Bradley W. Bakke , brother M.J. (Moe) Bakke, sister-in-law Florine McCarley and nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife Ida B. Bakke, his parents Walter and Sibyl and by brothers Seymour and Richard.
Robert was born in Columbus, Ohio, and grew up in Madison, Wisconsin. He attended West High School where he was a member of the Camera Club, Library Club, Youth Council, Red Cross and the Westward Ho Club. During high school he also played baseball, basketball and football.
In May of 1951 he enlisted in the Unites Sates Army and was stationed at Landstuhl, Germany and Fitzsimions Medical Center. He was honorably discharged in 1953.
He met Ida B. McCarley at a USO Dance while he was stationed at Fitzsimons and they married August 21st, 1953. In November of 1955 they gave birth to Bradley W. Bakke, their only child.
Robert spent the majority of his professional career in the beer distribution business working at Skyline Distributing and Murray Brothers Distributing of Denver. During that time he met a great number of people and continued a number of life-long friendships.
Some of his greatest joys were spending time with his family and friends and participating in VFW Post 1 functions where he was a past commander. After retiring, Robert and Ida moved to Windsor Gardens residential community in Denver and continued to find new friends. He last resided at Colorado Sate Veterans Home at Fitzsimons.
