Rolleen G. (Ronnie) Henry
December 14, 1930 – November 21, 2009
Rolleen Henry, 78, of Littleton, CO., passed away at her home Saturday, November 21 surrounded by family members. She was a beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother and will be deeply missed.
Rolleen was born December 14, 1930 in Fort Dodge, IA. to Albert and Lillian (Pearson) Lighty. The family lived in several places in Iowa and Bemidji, MN before moving to Park Rapids, MN. in 1944 where Rolleen graduated from High School. She attended Business College in Bemidji, worked for a year and then became a homemaker for the next twenty five years. She raised six children and returned to the working world when she moved to Colorado in 1975.
Rolleen worked for the Littleton Public School district for nineteen years, first as an instructional aide in the Special Education Department at Grant Junior High School. She was the bookkeeper and secretary for the Assistant Principal the last year that Grant was open and moved to Goddard Middle School in 1981 and worked for both the Assistant Principal for Student Services and the Assistant Principal for Instruction. She was twice nominated for the "Support Person of the Year" and was also a member of the Littleton Association of Educational Secretaries.
While raising her six children, Rolleen was involved with Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, the women's branch of the JayCees and PTA groups in the many cities located in the ten states where the family lived. She was presented with an honorary lifetime membership in the Kansas PTA for the many hours spent in volunteer work in her children's schools. A group of one of her daughters friends presented her with a plaque naming her the "World's Best Part Time Mom". Rolleen's home was always open to her children and their friends.
Rolleen's passion was reading, and she enjoyed talking about books with many of her children, grandchildren and friends. She was a self-taught speed reader and built an extensive home library. Her other hobbies included gardening, doing jigsaw and crossword puzzles and traveling when she got the chance. She enjoyed family gatherings for any occasion including birthdays and holidays and trips to the zoo, the museum and the mountains. Rolleen was also very active in her grandchildren's lives; attending school plays, baseball games, fundraisers, and high school and college graduations.
Rollen Henry is survived by her six children, Keith (Jolynn) Henry of Junction City, KS., Diane (Kurt) Hall of Grand Junction, CO., Eileen Hoffman of Littleton, CO., Susan (Bob) Riggins of Greeley, CO., Gene Liffick of Littleton, CO., Mark (Lisa) Henry of Johnstown, CO.; 15 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
