Over his remarkable 82 years, he touched the lives of countless individuals. A kind soul at heart, Ron was the embodiment of generosity, always ready to lend a helping hand. Friends and family alike could attest to his friendly demeanor, eager to support and uplift others. He was a beloved prankster and jokester, someone who could find fun in the simplest moments. His genuine kindness and thoughtfulness radiated to everyone fortunate enough to know him, making his presence a cherished comfort.
His early years were spent in the picturesque town of Durango, Colorado; later moving to Denver with his family where he attended East High School. After high school, Ron enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He was a proud veteran who served during the tumultuous times of the Vietnam conflict aboard the USS Porterfield 682 as a cook and gunner. Ron had a flourishing career at King Soopers, where he dedicated 29 years to the company. Starting his professional journey in the meat department as a skilled meat cutter, he ascended through the ranks into management and supervisory roles, leaving an indelible mark on his workplace and colleagues with his strong work ethic and his impromptu P.A. announcements and “concerts”. Following his time as Commander, Ron continued to serve the VFW on the National Council of Administration for five years.
For his community work he was presented the 7 Everyday Hero Award for helping organize a stand-down for homeless veterans. Over 500 veterans were served breakfast and lunch and were provided with medical care, sleeping bags, clothing, and other essentials. Quite a feat for a single day.
Ron was also well known for his unforgettable performances at VFW Conventions, where he would bring laughter to the hearts of many with his hilarious skits and vibrant presence. One of his most memorable acts involved the whimsical portrayal of a singing nun, a testament to his imaginative spirit and the joy he shared with those around him.
In addition to his playful spirit, Ron had a profound love for cooking, often whipping up meals for family gatherings or volunteering for causes that helped those in need. The hundreds of omelet bars, prime rib dinners, and holiday meals will be missed by all.
Ron loved to travel with family and friends and every trip was an adventure. He especially enjoyed elk hunting alongside his hunting crew, which included his grandson Brock, weaving into their outings not only the thrill of the chase but also treasured moments of togetherness.
