Scott David Schafer, 60, of Aurora, passed away January 6, 2017.
He was born January 18, 1956 in Denver, Colorado, the son of Frederick and Erma (Ball) Schafer. He was a graduate of Aurora Central High School and Weber State. On December 30, 1977 he married Jayne Martin in the Washington D.C. Temple.
Scott worked as a Registered Nurse for over 34 years, in both mental health and oncology. He ran competitively in his younger years, in both road races and marathons. He completed more than 40 marathons, and in his later years, slowed down and enjoyed the journey. Scott loved the outdoors: hiking, biking, camping and being involved with the Boy Scouts of America. He loved music, reading and animals.
Scott is survived by his wife, Jayne Schafer; six children, Jen (Erik) Vettergren, Jake (Amber) Schafer, Rebecca (Brandon) Elmer, Megan (Shad) Kendell, Lisa Schafer and Lori Schafer; three siblings, Doug (Claudia) Schafer, Nancy Stafford and Linda (Dave) Huff; seven grandchildren, Erik and Bode Vettergren, and Tom, Katie, Dancy, Thora and Sam Kendell; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his son, Brent Schafer; parents, Fred and Erma Schafer; and brothers, Steven and Richard Schafer.
