Scott Yowell, 87 of Lakewood, passed away October 5, 2011.
He was born March 27, 1924 in Mansfield, Arkansas, the son of late W. L. and Ernestine Yowell. He was the second youngest of six boys of which four served in WWII at the same time (all returning) and one brother serving stateside with the Civil Defense. Scott served in the US Navy during WWII on the aircraft carrier USS Altamaha transporting planes and pilots from California to Pearl Harbor and the smaller islands of the Pacific theater.
After his discharge he worked in a variety of jobs ranging from fruit cannery and packing houses in California to being a salesman for Quaker Oats in Arkansas. He graduated from the University of Arkansas and loved cheering for the Razorbacks. He became a Safety Engineer in the aerospace industry during the infancy of the space program, eventually working on the Apollo program that put the first man on the moon. He retired from Rocky Flats.
Scott and Wanda met in Waco, Texas and were married in 1957. They recently celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary. He was a 30 year resident of Colorado and loved the beauty of the mountains and spending time in Estes Park after his retirement with his wife Wanda. He cherished watching his children and granddaughter's grow up and visiting his wife's and brother's families in Texas, Arkansas and California.
He was preceded in death by his brothers Hillman, Bill, Page and Robert Yowell.
He survived by his wife Wanda Yowell. Father of Charles Yowell and Denise (Tim) Dolan. Grandfather of McKayla and Chandler Dolan. Brother of Dan (Sara) Yowell. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
