Shirley V. Garcia

February 13, 1936 — August 1, 2025

Denver

Shirley V. Garcia, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed peacefully in her sleep on August 1, 2025, in Denver, Colorado. Born on February 13, 1936, in Walsenburg, Colorado, Shirley brought joy and laughter to those who were fortunate enough to know her throughout her vibrant life.

A proud graduate of Manuel High School in East Denver, Shirley embraced life with a spirit that could warm the coldest of days. She was known for her remarkable sense of humor and her lovable, ornery personality. It was this unique charm that made everyone around her feel special and loved.

Shirley cherished her family, finding her greatest accomplishment in raising her children: William, Gary (Junie), and her daughter Karen (Mark). Every laugh shared, every moment spent together was a testament to her devotion as a mother. She also took immense pride in being a grandmother to her five grandchildren: Deandra, Phillip, Gary, and Roberta. Her love extended beyond words into the memories created through game nights, stories shared, and life lessons imparted.

Her passions were as colorful as her character. Whether it was enjoying a thrilling day at the Black Hawk casinos, hoping to bring home tales of her luck at the slot machines, or indulging in games of bingo and puzzles, Shirley cherished every moment. She would often come home with a sparkle in her eyes, recounting her days with statements like, "I did good" or, with a playful shrug, "I did bad." These memories evoke smiles even in her absence, reflecting the joy she infused into simple pastimes.

She was a loving sister as well, survived by her siblings Gil, Ronald, and Carla, who will forever treasure the connection they shared. Shirley was a beacon of light, even in the face of loss, having been preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Viola, as well as her siblings Desi, Patsy, Kal, Joey, and Connie. Each of these dear ones left an imprint upon her heart, and their memories live on through her legacy of love and laughter.

As we remember Shirley, we celebrate a wonderful woman who touched lives and sparked laughter. Her spirit, funny and lovable, will continue to resonate through the hearts of those she leaves behind. May we keep her memory alive in our hearts, honoring the joyous life she lived and the incredible family she nurtured.
