Shirley Ree Hume, a cherished sister, aunt, and survivor, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2026, in Lakewood, Colorado, at the age of 90. Born on September 9, 1935, in Trinidad, Colorado, Shirley lived a life marked by resilience, warmth, and an enduring zest for life that touched all who knew her.

A graduate of South High in Denver, Shirley embarked on a successful career with Prudential, where she served as an Executive Secretary for most of her working years. She retired in the late 1980s, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism and dedication that was admired by her colleagues.

Shirley’s strength and courage were evident early in her life when, in her 20s, she became one of the first individuals to receive radiation treatment at Colorado University of Boulder's medical center. Her determination to overcome cancer was a testament to her indomitable spirit and remained a proud accomplishment throughout her life. Her survival and longevity were not only remarkable but inspirational to all who knew her.

A woman full of life, Shirley was known for her silly, witty, and happy personality. She had a delightful sense of humor and was very personable, drawing others to her with ease. Her laughter and comical nature brightened countless moments, creating joyful memories among family and friends.

Travel was one of Shirley’s great passions, and she delighted in exploring both international destinations and beautiful spots throughout the United States. Her love for adventure and new experiences enriched her life and expanded her world in extraordinary ways.

Among the joys of Shirley’s life was the time she spent with her great nieces and nephews, particularly during their younger years. These moments brought her immense happiness, as she treasured being a beloved presence in their lives.

Shirley is survived by her brother, Walter Hume, and sister, Patricia Clemens; her niece, Deborah Payne; and nephews Stanley Hume (Charlene), Steven Hume (Michelle), and Jack Hulme, as well as numerous great nieces and nephews. The love and support of her family were a constant source of comfort and strength. She was preceded in death by her parents, Marie and Clarence Hume.

Shirley Ree Hume’s life was a shining example of perseverance, joy, and love for family. Her memory will be held dear by all who were fortunate to know her, and her legacy will continue to inspire future generations. She is remembered not only for her professional achievements and courageous spirit but also for the laughter and happiness she shared so generously.
