Shirley M. Hale was taken to heaven on December 23rd, 2015. She was 93 years young and remained loving and strong until her last breath.
She was born in Denver, Colorado on March 16, 1922, the child of Gus and Stella Hoefner. She was the first of five children, followed by Jack, Eileen, Billy, and Gloria.
Shirley graduated from Denver North High School. She met her future husband Bill (James) Hale at a dance at Elitch Gardens, and they married June 26, 1949. They had three children. Gary, born 1950, Mark, born 1952, and Connie, born 1955. In 1952 they bought a home in Aurora, Colorado. Shirley remained in Aurora until the end of her life.
She was a homemaker who took wonderful care of her children as well as her father, Gus, who also lived with them at the time. In 1963 she began a daytime child care business instead of taking a job outside the home. Her daycare business later became the family's main support. Through incredible hard work, intelligence and self-sacrifice she supported her family and herself her whole life. Many of her day-care families became part of her extended family and enriched her life always.
Her life was blessed in 1985 with the birth of her grandson, Christopher Taylor and in 1993 by her grandson Jared Taylor, the children of Connie and her wonderful husband Larry Taylor. She was an incredible, ever-loving, fun grandma who blessed the lives of her grandsons.
Her greatest heartbreak was the loss of her dear son, Mark, who died in a skiing accident in 1992. She rallied her strength and faith and continued taking care of and loving her family even more strongly.
Shirley bought a condominium at Heather Gardens Retirement Village in 2007, two miles from Connie and Larry, and not too far from Gary in Colorado Springs. Her favorite pastime was playing the penny slots in Black Hawk, especially with lots of family members in tow.
