Shirley Mardelle Luretta Whitten Mauer, 80, passed away peacefully with family at her side May 14, 2012 at her home in Evergreen. Wife to Elwin E. Mauer for 59 years, she was born August 24, 1931 in Cedar Bluffs, NE the oldest of four daughters to Wm Wallace and Alta Whitten. She graduated from McCook High School and attended St Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in Denver.
On September 14, 1952 she married Elwin in McCook and after moving between Nebraska and Colorado several times, finally settled in Evergreen in 1967. Shirley was employed as an OB/GYN nurse at St Luke's Hospital and later as a staff nurse at Lakepoint Medical Center. She served on the Evergreen Ambulance team for four years. In 1989, she became VP, Secretary/Treasurer to the family business, Aztec Radiant Heating.
Shirley was a member of Eastern Star, a board member of St Luke's Alumnae Association and a board member of Friends of Nursing Scholarship Association. She was a breast cancer survivor and served as a volunteer to the Alzheimer Association and Channel 6. She loved the theater, sailing, traveling and catching up on family genealogy.
Preceded in death by her parents, sister Katherine Joan, grand nephew Micheal and niece Rebecca, she is survived by husband Elwin, sisters Charlene and Janice of Phoenix, daughters Debra (Arthur) Robbins of Evergreen, Pamela Renee (James) Barlow of Montana, son Bruce (Jayne) Mauer of Evergreen, five grandchildren: Erik, Leigh, Katie, Alysa, Michelle and one great grandchild, Elena.
The memorial service will be 2 pm Sunday, June 3, 2012, at Newcomer Mortuary, 901 S Sheridan Blvd, Lakewood CO. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a charity of your choosing.
