Sidney Gerald Syverson

July 20, 1930 — December 4, 2017

Sidney Gerald Syverson, age 87, entered eternal rest peacefully at home on December 4, 2017.

He was born to Oscar and Anna Syverson on July 20, 1930 in Britton, South Dakota. He was raised on a farm east of Britton. He was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran in Britton. He was a 4-H leader for many years. After graduating from high school in 1948, he graduated from Cayne Electrical School in Chicago. He farmed and also did electrical contracting.

On March 7, 1953 he was united in marriage to Jeanette LaVaonne Mahlen at Fron Lutheran Church.

To this union four children were born (all having July birthdays). Pamela Kingston of Brighton, Colorado; Peggy Heittich (Neil) of Pierre, South Dakota; and an adopted daughter, Debbie Peasley of Pennsylvania.

He was preceded in death by loving wife of 58 years Jeanette, both sons Scott and Steven (Vickie), parents, one brother Howard and infant brother Charles.

Sidney served as Mayor of Dupree, South Dakota, volunteered at the Fire Department, and sat on the City and Church Councils. He served as an usher and greeter in each church he attended since the age of 16.

Sidney and Jeanette owned and operated several bulk gasoline businesses in Colorado, South Dakota and Iowa.

He was a loving and devoted husband/father/grandfather/great-grandfather/great-great-grandfather. He was often referred to by many as Papa. He had a great sense of humor and baby blue eyes, and will be missed greatly by all those who knew him.

He is survived by daughters Peggy, Pamela and Debbie, daughter-in-law Vickie, 12 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren.
