Silfred was born in Lone Oak, Colorado, raised in Mesitas, Colorado. He was the oldest child of Noberto, and Estefanita Ramos. Silfred had four brothers, three sisters, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He graduated from Primero High School in 1942 and attended Trinidad Junior College. Silfred was drafted by the army in 1943 while working in California for the Southern, Pacific Railroad. He trained in Camp Bowie, Texas, Louisiana, and Habbery, Maryland. During WWII he served in New Guinea, and in the Philippines. He was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon with four Battle Stars and Good Conduct Victory Ribbons. In 1946 he was honorably discharged at Fort Logan, Colorado, and returned to California.
In 1948 he returned to Colorado, attending Trinidad State Junior College to complete his degree. His occupations included construction, coal mining, until finally starting a career working for the U.S. Postal Service in 1951. Silfred retired in 1984 as a supervisor, where he then returned to Trinidad, Colorado with his beloved dog Biscuit. In 2004, he returned to Denver to live his remaining life.
Silfred was a lifelong bachelor and was very family oriented with his nieces, nephews, brothers, and sisters. His favorite hobbies were hiking, fly fishing, hunting, camping, and searching for arrowheads. He loved being outdoors. He was very generous with his time and belongings and he captivated his family with stories of his travels, the WWII battles he fought in, and his knowledge about current events, world history, hunting, and fishing. He loved a great cup of coffee and a cigarette.
Silfred was loved by all and will be dearly missed.
