Sophie E. Olivas, 85 of Denver, Colorado, passed away July 31, 2015.
She was born July 4, 1930, in Cebolla, New Mexico, the daughter of Genoveva and Nicholas Salazar of New Mexico. She was married to Abdon Olivas on December 1, 1956.
Sophie loved to share good food (she was a meticulous cook), good times and especially loved to visit and talk with friends and family. She enjoyed playing bingo, the casinos and was a heck of a great poker player!
Sophie was a very beautiful, strong willed and wise woman. She was very passionate about her family's wellbeing.
Sophie was preceded in death by her husband Abdon and son Kenneth. She is survived by daughter Brenda K. Olivas, sons, Donald J. Olivas (Mona) Ronald L. Olivas (Betty/Cricket) deceased. She is very loved by grandchildren Aaron Olivas, Christopher Olivas, Brianna Olivas, Johnathan Olivas, Joshua Olivas, Lauren Olivas and 1 great grandchild, Christopher J. Olivas and numerous nieces, nephews and a large extended family and many friends.
A viewing will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home - West Metro Chapel, 901 S. Sheridan Blvd., Lakewood, CO. from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday August 10 and Rosary is at 7 p.m.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 2760 Larimer St., Denver, CO on Tuesday August 11. A burial procession will immediately follow to Fort Logan National Cemetery, 4400 W. Kenyon Ave., Denver, CO.
