Stephen Vaughn, known to friends and family as Steve, was born on August 25, 1947, in Boulder, Colorado. He graduated from Campus High School in Wichita, Kansas in 1965, a reflection of his upbringing influenced by the family's deep-rooted connections to the aviation industry. His father served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, which set the stage for their family's journey through various states and ultimately into Steve's passion for aviation.
Steve devoted his career to Rogers and Sons, where he worked diligently as a journeyman HVAC technician and tinner, specializing in control systems. His dedication and commitment to his craft were evident throughout his professional life.
In addition to his work, Steve was known for his love for the outdoors. He cherished the moments spent hunting elk and deer with his sons, Zach and Josh, in the picturesque settings of Meeker, Colorado. Family memories were made through fishing trips at Jefferson Lake and Chatfield Reservoir, among other beloved spots across Colorado. Steve earned his private pilot's license in the 1970s and relished flying his Cessna and Piper to Kansas with friends for dove and pheasant hunting and later enjoyed flying remote-control airplanes at Chatfield State Park.
Steve met his wife, Janet Vaughn, through Faith Community Church in Littleton, Colorado, and they married in 2002.
He was a proud man, often too proud to ask for help, and he instilled this spirit of independence in his sons, raising them to be self-reliant and capable individuals. His personality was marked by a stubborn yet humorous nature, often infused with sarcasm that endeared him to those around him.
Steve's legacy of love will continue through his wife, Janet Vaughn; his sons, Zachary and Joshua (Tammi); his cherished grandchildren, Xeke, Anna, Samantha, and Lucy; and his stepdaughters, Nikki Crouse (Brian), Tanya Halden (Brian), Jodi Crouse (Michael), and step-grandchildren, Tyler, Sienna, Ashley, Brady, and Logan.
Stephen Ambrose Vaughn passed away on February 25, 2026, in Englewood, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ambrose and Rose Vaughn. Steve will be fondly remembered.
