Sue Ann Arnholt

November 5, 1936 — May 8, 2012

Sue Ann Arnholt, 75, of Denver, Colorado went to be with her Savior on Tuesday, May 8, 2012. She was born on November 5, 1936 to parents Edward O. and Ruth E. Cookerly in Joplin, MO. She is survived by Greg Arnholt and Shelley, and their children Devin, Nathan, & Anna, Reverend Brad Arnholt and Lisa, and their children Leiland and Micah, and Christina (Arnholt) Meek and Jason, and their son Austin. She is preceded in death by loving husband Paul Gerald Arnholt.
Sue was raised in Joplin, Missouri; she graduated from Joplin High School, Joplin Junior College, and the University of Missouri where she earned her teaching degree. In 1962, she spent a year as a teacher at Hahn Air Force Base in Hahn Germany. After returning to the States, she began her career as a teacher with the Denver Public Schools where she met the love of her life Paul Gerald Arnholt. They were married at Lutheran Redeemer Church on April 14, 1963.
Sue served her Lord in many ways. First, and foremost, she took her job as mother very seriously. With the help of her husband, she made her house a home, worked within the budget so that she could be at home to raise her children, giving up her career as a teacher for what she deemed as a greater career, the rearing of her children in a Godly home.
Her service did not end at home; she continued to volunteer as a Sunday School teacher throughout her life, even up to recent months. She saw it as her primary goal, to make sure that not only her own children, but her grandchildren and Sunday School kids all knew the catechism. She served on various committees at the church from LWML to Altar Guild, and continued as her husband had done, buying donuts for church on Sundays. She also loved to sing in the church choir and as a soloist.
She showed her love most often through the kitchen. Sue loved to cook and serve others through cooking. From whoopee pies to cherry pies, lasagna to cake decorating, her passion for cooking and teaching others to cook was only superseded by her passion for sharing Christ. Even as she struggled with her cancer, she rarely asked why, but used it as an opportunity and a new lease on life to use every moment possible to share Christ with her family, visitors, and especially the wonderful hospice workers who stayed in her home.
She did none of these things for personal gain or glory but as a response to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for the salvation He won for her. Such was the faith Christ had given her, that when it became difficult to swallow, she didn't ask how she would eat, but how she would be able to receive Christ's Body and Blood in the Sacrament. Thanks be to God for calling her in Baptism and keeping her in the one true faith. 1 John 3:1, "See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are."
