Susan Lynn Amtower – proud mother of two talented daughters, grandmother, retired veterinarian nurse, published author, musician, gardener, lover of all animals, spiritual explorer, prankster, talented artist and photographer, stage hand and producer, courageous fighter, supporter of the those oppressed and less-fortunate, entertaining story teller, fisherman and nature lover, admirer of all things wondrous and beautiful, confidant, beloved wife, lover, and friend – passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2011 following a brave battle with cancer. She was 53.
Born in Belleville, IL, Susan is the daughter of Doris Sonnenberg Bohley and Alvin Bohley, both deceased. She is survived by her husband, Douglas Amtower, of Aurora, CO, daughter Nicole Lynn Wozniak, son-in-law Aaron, grandchildren Brianna and Brady of Boyertown, PA, daughter Elizabeth Mary Siwek of Aurora, CO, sisters Allisyn Bohley of College Station, TX and Marsha Conklin of Orlando, FL. Mother-in-law, Erie Amtower of Port Royal, PA. Susan is preceded in death by her father-in-law, John Amtower.
Susan received an Associate Degree as a Veterinary Technician from Wilson College for Women in Chambersburg, PA. She was one of the first certified veterinary critical care nurses in the State of Kansas and she proudly took part in animal rescue efforts in New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina.
Family and friends are invited to a Gathering and Life Celebration to be held at Unity Temple on the Plaza in Kansas City, MO on Saturday, October 15 from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM in the Charles Fillmore chapel. The Temple is located at 707 West 47th Street, in Kansas City, MO 64112.
