Thelma Rae Calhoun, 101 years old, a long-time resident of Idaho Springs Colorado, passed away and ascended to heaven on Monday, December 12, 2016 at The Bear Creek Center, Morrison Colorado.
Thelma was born in Denver Colorado on August 8, 1915 to Raymond and Mayme (Campbell) Manker. Her formal education continued through the 8th grade. She was married in Littleton, Colorado to Robert Calhoun on August 11, 1935.
Thelma was an extremely loving person whose long life revolved around spending time with: her family including her sisters, brothers and their families; her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She worked hard as a wife and homemaker to raise her children and grandchildren and to teach and to nurture them. Her love for her family was always paramount. The outpouring of her love has always been reflected back to her by her family, who all loved her as much as she loved them.
Thelma enjoyed cooking and baking, the mountains of Colorado, fishing, gardening and being outdoors. She was a self-taught and very accomplished artist who produced numerous oil paintings and other works of art including portraits. She loved to decorate her home with art, family pictures, and the many gifts that her loving family showered her with.
Thelma's surviving family members are numerous but include: one sister, Elaine McGary of Morrison; one child, Gary Calhoun (Pamela) of Wheat Ridge. She also is survived by sixteen grandchildren, forty-four great-grandchildren, twenty-five great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by: her husband, Robert Calhoun; three children, Wayne Calhoun, Ronald Calhoun and Darlene West; two grandchildren, Ron Calhoun and Amanda Strange; three brothers and five sisters.
A visitation will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, 901 S Sheridan Blvd, Lakewood, CO 80226 on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Services will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at 12:30 pm. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery, 10201 Grant St, Thornton, CO 80229.
Finally, a gathering to celebrate Thelma's life will occur between 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm at the American Legion, Joseph P Kennedy, Jr Post 11-11, 9959 Wadsworth Blvd Broomfield, Colorado 80021. Please note, in this area, Wadsworth Blvd is not the same as Wadsworth Pkwy (Colorado-121) and is sometimes called "Old Wadsworth".
