Thelma Delight Warren
Thelma was born on August 20, 1916, in the Ozark Mountains in South Central Missouri. Her parents were William and Lula Wilkins and she was the third child in a family of seven brothers and four sisters.
Her childhood was happy and busy - typical of country living. In her pre-teen years she learned every domestic skill and formed a lifelong work ethic with an attitude of "I can do it". She was needed at home, and unable to complete her education. In the fall of 1930, when she was 14 she attended a Brush Arbor Camp Meeting and there accepted Christ as her Savior. Later, in her teens Thelma went to the big city (St. Louis) and worked as a maid for a wealthy family - seeing and experiencing things she hadn't even imagined.
Then in 1938 Thelma met Carmel Warren. They were married and in the next few years they were blessed with 2 girls, Pat and Lucie. Carmel was working in a lumber mill and Thelma was working as the cook when he was hit with the "Go West" fever and so 1941 began 60 years of her following him around.
After they settled in Laramie, WY, Carmel and the girls were saved and Thelma re-dedicated her life to God. It was then that their lives became centered in the church. They were blessed again with 2 more girls, Carmen and Sharen. Starting another family at 40 wasn't always easy - and caring for a young diabetic stretched Thelma for many years…but she did it! She enjoyed motherhood and at one time she even broke her tailbone while long jumping in the living room with the girls. She claimed to have packed lunches for 32 years.
When the family lived in a timber camp in the Colorado Mountains, she worked in the camp store and when they owned a motel in New Mexico, she did maids work. When they owned a gas station, she ran the register and when Carmel started Churches and preached, she did whatever God put in front of her. She went fishing and hunting in the States and in Canada…but would "NEVER" fly in a plane…and never learned to swim.
In 1998 they moved into Eden Manor Senior Apartments in Denver, CO and joined Beth Eden Baptist Church where she met many wonderful friends. She cared for Carmel after he was partially paralyzed; and after he died, she remained in their home there until she was almost 96. She has lived the last 14 months in her daughter, Lucie's home.
Thelma went to Heaven on Thursday, September 5th in the afternoon. She lived a long happy life, was loved, and will be missed, but she is breathing heavenly air now, worshipping the Savior and walking on streets of Gold.
