Thelma D. Stonebraker

Thelma Delorus Stonebraker 94 of Denver died Saturday, April 26. She was born to Cecilia and James Stephenson October 31, 1930, in LaJunta Colorado. Thelma attended Ft Bent school where she completed the 8th grade. Thelma then quit school to help with the family restaurant.

Thelma met Joe Stonebraker in 1947 and moved to Lamar, Colorado. In 1950 they moved to the greater Denver area. Thelma was a stay-at-home Mom until the children were all in school. She then went to cosmetology school and became a beautician. In 1967 the family moved to Aspen Park, Colorado and Thelma quit working. Thelma and Joe then started spending winters in Apache Junction, AZ. In 1982 Thelma and Joe built a home for the family. Thelma sanded and stained all the woodwork in the house including a beat-kill wood ceiling. She did all the decorating, choosing of appliances, light fixtures, doorknobs—everything. In 2018 Thelma and Joe moved to Windsor Gardens, Denver. January 2025, she moved to Stone Creek of Littleton

Thelma loved to hunt and fish, garden, and swim. She also won many Shuffleboard tournaments, Bowling, and has many tractor pull trophies. Thelma was also a seamstress, crocheted, knitted, and made beautiful quilts. For which she received 1st place at the Colorado State Fair in Pueblo.

Thelma is survived by 3 children, Susan, Donna, and Daniel, 3 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren 6 great-great grandchildren. Thelma is also survived by her brother, Melvin. Thelma is preceded in death by her parents, Cecelia and James, her sister Ruth, and brothers Paul, Joe, Clarence, James, and Monroe, grandson, Dustin, granddaughter Kelsey and 2 great-grandsons, Avery and Isaih.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Denver Fire Fighters Charitable Foundation.

Services will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, Friday May 16 at 1 pm with visitation beginning at noon.
