Tom Lord was born in 1957 in Rudesheim Am Rhine, Germany was the son of Staff Sargeant Thomas Monroe Lord and his war bride Ingeborg Mertens. Tom's grandfather Eugene Mertens was the town physician who was famous for urging the local wine grape growers to stop giving wine to their infant children.
Tom's family settled in West Denver in 1959 where he attended South High School. He Graduated from Regis University in 1979 with a degree in both psychology and business. He began his career at Denver Health Hospital working with troubled adolescents. He then transitioned into media working for the weekly Community Press and Sentinel Newspaper groups.
Tom's proudest achievements in his career filled with commitment and creativity were fulfilled working with the Rocky Mountain News as an events coordinator and as Retention Subscription Manager for the Denver Post. For the last four years Tom has run his own company Renewing You, Inc.
Tom also had a love for music and became a mentor and manager of rock bands. In 1996, he helped propel Denver's Turnsol to national acclaim as one of Ticketmaster's Best Five Unsigned Bands and again in 1999 for Best Album for the Association For Independent Music. He collaborated on a landmark anti-hate video project with Farmington, New Mexico's Signal 99 and Denver's Great Loudini. This video and song became a 2011 Native American Music Award nomination for Best Video and Best New Artist.
Tom Lord leaves a long legacy of friendship, service and entertainment. His sense of humor and spirit of humanity will be missed.
Tom passed away suddenly at St. Joseph's Hospital, September 14th, 2015 after a short but aggressive bout of a very rare gallbladder cancer that attacks the vascular system.
He is survived by his business partner and wife, Louise Shinall.
