Thomas Michael Dwyer

May 23, 1937 — April 24, 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Thomas Michael Dwyer, age 87, on Thursday, April 24, 2025. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 65 years, Harriet (Merschmann) Dwyer. Tom was born on May 23, 1937, in Chicago, Illinois. He was the son of the late John Dwyer and Mary Jane (Sharkey) Dwyer, and was preceded in death by his brother, John “Bud” Dwyer and Margaret “Toots” (Dwyer) Swanson.

Tom was a kind and loving man who grew up in Elmhurst, Illinois and attended Immaculate Conception (IC) High School where he met his wife to be. He attended the University of Illinois and was a proud six-year member of the Illinois Air National Guard. Tom and Harriet were married in Elmhurst, Illinois on January 2, 1960. Tom embarked on his career in engineering at Western Electric in Chicago and in 1965, and was transferred to Aurora, which made his wife very happy because – Colorado! (smart man). He remained working as an engineer for the phone company until his retirement.

Tom enjoyed playing and being involved with sports. As a teenager he played football, basketball, and baseball. As an adult he enjoyed skiing with the family (except for the cold), bowling, playing softball, and his favorite sport of golf! He also managed an adult softball team for many years, and umpired baseball and softball games for both children and adult leagues. Tom also liked to watch sports on television (go Broncos and Cubs!). And those who knew him were amazed/shocked that he was able to watch two television sets at the same time! The family thought it was normal! Tom also taught his three daughters how to play softball; drive a stick shift; and change the tire on the car (which was required before getting a driver’s license!). He got Joni interested in the Denver Bronco’s at a young age (even before the Orange Crush era); often took Teri on motorcycle rides with him; and on the rare occasion when Lori golfed with him, he gave welcome tips to improve her game (it didn’t work!).

After retirement, Tom and Harriet did some traveling and enjoyed being “snowbirds” a few months out of the year in Arizona where many of their friends also wintered. While there, Tom loved to golf with his friends.

Tom will be sorely missed by his family which includes his three daughters: Lori Kassmeier (and husband Ray Kassmeier), Joni Dwyer, and Teri Dwyer. He also leaves behind his seven grandchildren: Jennifer Pieper Kenner (and spouse Stacy Keener), Danielle Kassmeier (and spouse Jake Sortor), Pierce Kassmeier (and spouse Kristin Yde), Carissa Eastin, Nicolas Eastin, JJ Eastin, and Jesse Pepe. He is also leaving behind the newest addition to the family, his great-granddaughter Samantha Keener; as well as his niece and nephew: Dolly (Swanson) Hinich and John Dwyer (and wife Sharon).

Tom did not want a traditional funeral service; therefore, a small gathering will be held for his burial on Friday, June 6th at 2:00 pm, at the Horan and McConaty Cremation Gardens, located at 11150 E. Dartmouth Ave, Aurora, CO 80014.
