Mr. Thomas ‘Tom’ J. Flowers, Sr., of Aurora, Colorado transitioned peacefully at his home on Sunday November 10, 2024, in Aurora, Colorado.
Tom was born December 7, 1946, in Clay, Louisiana to the late John and Annie (Saulsberry) Flowers. Tom lived a life of simplicity, finding joy in the little things and cherishing the moments spent with loved ones. He touched the lives of many with his generosity, kindness and wisdom, leaving behind a profound impact on his family and friends. Tom always placed the needs of others, especially his family before his own.
Tom served in the 1st Calvary Division (Airmobile) in the Republic of Vietnam and his tour of duty successfully ended October, 1969. After returning from the Vietnam War, he spent time with family and then embarked on his next adventure, traveling the U.S. as a Motor Coach Operator, seeing monumental sites from the Rocky Mountains of Colorado to Mt. Rushmore National Monument. He was an active community volunteer and was passionate about his work within his local precinct, including as a voter registration volunteer, where he worked tirelessly striving to make a difference in his community. He was an avid player of dominoes, dating back to playing with his late father. This love grew and he became an active member of the Fishbone Gentlemen’s Domino Club in Aurora, CO. Tom also considered himself a slot machine aficionado, garnering quite a few payouts. He was also a car enthusiast, and his most prized vehicles were his Cadillac’s. Most of all, Tom was a man who truly loved his family and he always put them first.
Tom leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience and cherished memories. Left to cherish those memories are his beloved only son, Thomas J. Flowers, Jr., from his previous marriage to Ms. Vernette Flowers, whom he remained close with until his passing. He is also survived by Bonus Daughters Robin Sanford (Denver) and Cheryl Hardiman (Texas), and 6 Bonus Grandchildren.
Also left to hold dear his memories is, his Sister, Jerry Flowers McWilliams in Dallas, TX and his many nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved deeply.
Tom was preceded in death by his Siblings: Zella M. Wilson, Charlie Flowers, Mary L. Flowers, S.B. Hassen, Eva D. Wilson, Annie Flowers Tidwell, Stella M. Flowers, Ora L. Flowers, Martha S. Potts and Sammie L. Flowers.
