Listen to Obituary

Thomas Kenneth Herman, 40, passed away on November 26, 2025. Born October 15, 1985, in Cincinnati, he is survived by his parents, Thomas and Laurie Herman, his five siblings, Rachael Thompson, Rosie (Steve) Trahey, Annie (Nick) Blair, Christian Herman, Sarah (Chris) Axtell, and his 13 nieces and nephews who loved and cherished him as fun Uncle Tommy. He always had a sweet treat and a 2-wheeled adventure ready for the kids.

Tommy was our youngest son, our baby brother, and beloved uncle. He seemed to have been born on a bike, learning to ride on two wheels before his 3rd birthday. He was a gifted athlete in many sports, but his passion was cycling. At age 13, he obtained his first job at Bishop’s Bicycles in Milford, Ohio, the oldest continuously operated bike shop in the US. His love of the sport blossomed there and during high school at Summit Country Day, in Cincinnati.

Tommy attended Ohio State University where he studied engineering; no surprise to us after a childhood spent taking apart and reassembling bikes. After graduation, he moved to Denver to pursue his career and live his adventurous life in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains.

Tom loved his career as a Product Engineer at Boa Systems, where he fine-tuned and developed cutting edge technology, exercising his analytical abilities in a high energy environment. Outside of work, Tom lived and breathed cycling. He was revered in the cycling community, and many considered it an honor to ride and train with him. Tom was a nationally recognized cyclist; a professional level, sponsored rider. He was a finely conditioned athlete, regularly placing 1st or 2nd in competitions. Tom was extraordinary to witness, especially when he drove into the steep ascents, out-climbing the pack with a seamless mix of strength and technical skill.

Some of Tom’s more memorable races include: The Power of Four MTB race, 36 miles from Snowmass to Aspen via the four area ski mountains, of which he set a course record in 2018, and won again in 2019; The Leadville 100 MTB, one of the most challenging and prestigious mountain bike races in the world, which ends at the summit of the Columbine Mine at 12,600 feet. His participation in Criterium road races as a member of various sponsored teams, in Ohio, Arizona, and Colorado, number into the hundreds over the years.

Combining his love for the sport and his engineering talent, he also served as the team mechanic in the RAAM, the Race Across America, a 3,070-mile bicycle race from Oceanside, CA, to Annapolis, MD.

We are so proud of him. He inspired us to get outside and challenge ourselves. Life is so fragile, and we wish we had more time with him!

We invite Denver friends to join us this Saturday 12/6/2025 at Conifer Bike Shop from 4-7 pm to remember our dear and cherished Tom. Next summer, we will have a celebration of his life in Cedarville, Michigan, where Tommy spent summer vacation all his life with immediate and extended family.

Get outside and go for a walk, run, or ride in memory and honor of our forever son and brother, Tom! He loved us all and wants us to remember the good times!
